Step 1: Open the Template Link
-
Click the Canva template link provided to you.
-
On the preview page, click "Use template" (or "Edit Template") in the top right corner.
-
If you don't already have a free Canva account, you'll be prompted to create one — it only takes a minute and is free.
-
The website template will open in the Canva editor and a copy will be saved to your own Canva account.
This creates your own personal copy. The original template is untouched, so feel free to experiment freely.

Step 2: Navigate Between Pages
Most wedding website templates include several pages — think Home, Our Story, Details, Registry, and RSVP. By default, Canva opens your design in scroll view, so you can simply scroll up and down to move between pages, just like a visitor would on your live site.
If you'd rather jump straight to a specific page, switch to thumbnail view by clicking the Pages icon at the bottom of the editor — this shows a row of page thumbnails you can click to jump between instantly. From here you can also rename pages (which sets what shows up in your site's navigation menu), reorder them by dragging, or add new ones with the "+" button.

Step 3: Edit Text
-
Click directly on any text (headings, paragraphs, buttons) you want to change.
-
Click again to enter editing mode — you'll see a blinking cursor.
-
Type your own text to replace the placeholder content.
-
Click outside the text box when finished.
To adjust font, size, or color:
-
Select the text.
-
Use the toolbar at the top to change font, size, color, alignment, or bold/italic.

Step 4: Update Colors
-
Click on any background, shape, or button you want to recolor.
-
Click the color square in the top toolbar.
-
Choose from:
-
Default Canva palette
-
Custom HEX code — click the "+" to enter your exact wedding color.
-
Tip: For a cohesive look, pick 2–3 main colors from your wedding palette and reuse them consistently throughout the site.
Step 5: Replace Photos
-
Click on the photo you want to swap out.
-
In the left sidebar, click "Uploads".
-
Click "Upload files" and select your own engagement or couple photo.
-
Drag the new image on top of the existing one — it will snap into the frame and resize automatically.
-
Double-click the image to reposition or zoom within its frame, then click outside to confirm.
Step 6: Update Buttons & Links
Many templates include clickable buttons (e.g., "RSVP," "View Registry," social icons).
-
Click on the button or icon.
-
Look for the link icon in the top toolbar (or right-click and choose "Link").
-
Enter the destination — this can be:
-
A page within your site (select from dropdown)
-
An external URL (your RSVP form, registry, hotel block, etc.)
-
-
Click "Apply" or press Enter to save the link.
⚠️ Be sure to update all placeholder links (social icons, RSVP buttons, registry links) before publishing — these often point to example URLs by default.
The only way to add links is on induvial elements if you do not see the link option make sure that you ungroup your elements, then add the links you want and regroup.

Step 7: Updating the Countdown Timer
This template includes a countdown timer powered by TickCounter. If you want to update it (for example, if your wedding date changes), here's how:
-
Go to tickcounter.com and create your own countdown timer with your desired date/event.
-
Once created, find the embed code/link TickCounter provides for your countdown.
-
In Canva, click on the existing countdown embed element on the page.
-
Replace the embed link with your new TickCounter link (look for an "edit link" or "replace embed" option when you click on the element).
-
Make the background and border transparent:
-
With the embed element selected, open its settings/style options.
-
Set the background to transparent.
-
Set the border to transparent (or "none").
-
-
Hide the small "T" logo:
-
TickCounter adds a small "T" watermark/logo to the embed.
-
Use Canva's eyedropper tool to sample the exact background color directly behind the countdown.
-
Draw a small rectangle/box using that sampled color and place it directly over the "T" so it blends in and becomes invisible against the background.
-
Send this box to the front (right-click → "Forward" or "Bring to front") so it sits on top of the "T" and covers it completely.
-
⚠️ If you change your background color or image later, you'll need to re-sample the new color with the eyedropper and update the cover box to match, or the "T" may become visible again.

Step 8: Updating the YouTube Video Embed
This template also includes an embedded YouTube video that has been made invisible (likely used as a background audio/visual element rather than a visible video).
-
Click on the embedded YouTube video element on the page.
-
To replace it with a different video, replace the embed link/URL with your new YouTube video link.
-
Make sure it stays invisible:
-
With the embed selected, set its opacity to 0% in the element's settings (look for an opacity slider, usually in the top toolbar or right-hand panel).
-
Alternatively, if there's no opacity option for embeds, you can resize the embed down to a very small size and position it off to the side or behind another element, then layer something on top of it (send it to the back — right-click → "Send to back").
-
-
Double-check in Preview mode (Step 10 below) that the video is not visibly showing on the page.
💡 Tip: If your video embed plays audio and you don't want that, make sure autoplay is disabled in your video's settings, or be cautious about using this feature at all, since hidden autoplaying video/audio can be a poor experience for site visitors and may violate YouTube's embedding guidelines.

Step 9: Edit the Navigation Menu
-
Click on the menu/navbar area at the top of any page.
-
You can rename menu items, reorder them by dragging, or remove ones you don't need.
-
Make sure each menu item links to the correct page (see Step 6 for linking).
Step 10: Preview Your Site
-
Click "Preview" in the top right corner (it may show as an eye icon or "Preview site").
-
Click through each page as a visitor would, on both desktop and mobile view, to check that everything looks right and all links work.

Step 11: Publish Your Website
-
Once you're happy with your edits, click "Share" in the top right corner, then select "Publish website" (wording may vary slightly).
-
Canva will generate a free subdomain link (something like yourname.my.canva.site).
-
Optional- Custom Domain: If you own a domain name (e.g., yournames.com), you can connect it:
-
Go to website settings and look for "Domains" or "Connect a custom domain."
-
Follow Canva's prompts to link your domain (you may need to update DNS settings with your domain provider, Canva will give you these instructions).
-
-
Click "Publish" (or "Update" if republishing after edits) to make your site live.

Step 12: Make Future Edits
You can return and edit your site anytime:
-
Log into Canva and open the website project from your "Projects" dashboard.
-
Make your changes.
-
Click "Publish" again to push the updates live, edits won't appear on your live site until you republish.
